Mountain Lions sign 6-foot-7 forward

By Doug Fitzgerald

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men’s basketball coach Russ Caton announced the signing of Eric Gardzina, a transfer from Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario

In his one season with the Chukars, The sophomore from Helena, Mont., averaged 6.1 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 86 percent from the foul line. He also averaged 5.8 rebounds per game in 18.4 minutes of playing time, which translates to a solid 12.7 rebounds per 40 minutes.

“(Gardzina) in a legit 6-foot-7 and is a defending and rebounding
machine with quick feet,” said Caton. “He has the ability to score inside and out and is an untapped offensive source.”

Gardzina graduated from Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home, Idaho. He spent one season at Montana Tech, where he redshirted.

In high school Gardzina shot 80 percent from the free throw line and 50 percent from the field, including 45 percent from the 3-point line. He also averaged nine rebounds per game.

“Eric is loaded with potential and I can't wait to get him here in the fall,” said Caton. “He is the quality of person that will blend in perfectly with the team that we have returning. He is excited about getting into the criminal justice program and from there trying to get into the FBI.”
